VR in Education

What happens when learning becomes an experience?

In this video, Yvonne van Everdingen explains an innovative teaching project designed to make the environmental impact of AI more tangible through the use of VR.

The project is part of Yvonne’s third-year bachelor’s course Sustainable Marketing and Consumer Behavior at Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University).

In the VR environment, students alternate between being at home, where they must decide for various everyday activities whether to use AI, and working in a data center. They are confronted with often unseen consequences of AI usage, such as energy consumption, water use, and e-waste.

The project also includes a research component, comparing VR with traditional learning and its effect on understanding and awareness of AI use.

For this initiative, Yvonne van Everdingen received a grant as part of the Sustainability in Education project from the Centre for Learning and Innovation.

The VR experience

The VR experience (Outsourced) was developed by students from Delft University of Technology in collaboration with our team at ECDA will advise on field research with various XR applications and on sharing results with internal and external stakeholders., with support from UPscaleXR team.
