How can we make our electricity systems more resilient as the energy transition accelerates?

We were excited to hear from Yashar Ghiassi-Farrokhfal, Professor at RSM and our Academic Director of Smart Energy and Sustainability, at the Opening of the Academic Year at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Why now?

The energy transition is changing how electricity is produced, distributed, and consumed. Growing demand, uncertainty from renewables, and two-way electricity flows are creating new challenges for the grid. Data and AI can help us manage these challenges and use existing infrastructure more intelligently.

Why Erasmus University?

The transition is no longer only an engineering challenge. It requires collaboration across disciplines and sectors. Through initiatives such as the Convergence Center for Energy System Intelligence (CESI) and the Erasmus Centre for Energy Transition, Erasmus University brings together academic expertise and key partners to work on the transition together.

Rotterdam and Erasmus University are therefore well positioned to develop resilient energy solutions that can provide valuable guidelines for other cities.
