Have you joined our AI-Assisted Student Session? 🚀
This week, we hosted a group of talented students at our Erasmus Data Collaboratory at the Erasmus University Rotterdam campus for the AI-Assisted Student Session. This event was organized in collaboration with Turing Students Rotterdam.
Led by Jos van Dongen, Director of the Erasmus Data Collaboratory, the workshop provided an engaging and thorough introduction to the world of AI.
Starting with the basics, participants explored the history and definitions of AI, gaining a clearer understanding of terms such as Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), while examining both the immense potential and the challenges these tools present.
A demonstration of Google AI Studio’s “Stream Realtime” showcased how easy it becomes to interact with advanced AI models through live audio and video inputs. This allows for seamless real-time communication by sharing a camera feed or screen and engaging in natural conversations with the AI. The demo featured, among others, how AI can accurately describe a space and the people in it. This is also applied in smart glasses and shows immense promise in assisting visually impaired people.
Students were further introduced to ‘Digital Agents’ – intelligent digital assistants – and actively engaged in interactive, hands-on exercises across various platforms.
Thank you to everyone who joined us! We hope you found the session insightful and feel encouraged to explore the potential of AI to support your studies and (future) work.
