Inclusive Smart Cities & Communities
Making Smart Cities Shared
A city is more than merely the buildings and the rest of its physical presence, it is also the citizens, the entrepreneurs and the public sector organizations within the city. These are all intertwined in ecosystems and communities. Data and technology can be adopted to help tackle a variety of challenges, whether this deals with sustainable energy, healthcare, safety or public service delivery, technology is a key driver.
However, a key driver is not enough, an important questions is who is driven, who is included, and who wants to be included. This is not only about data literacy or ICT capabilities but far more about trust, perception of technology and sense of community. Our biggest challenge might not be the (functioning of) technology but moreover the perception of stakeholders of this technology and their willingness to adopt or use as well as the adverse effects this might include.
