XR Student Assistant

Introduction

Because of the growing importance of immersive technology, the Erasmus Data Collaboratory (EDC) has established an Immersive Xperience (IX) Lab to experiment and gain experience with technology like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR) and Holography in research, education, everyday life and more. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and tech-savvy student assistant to assist our IX Lab team in developing and demonstrating captivating immersive experiences in diverse fields.

Job Description

As an Immersive Xperience Lab student assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the operation of our IX Lab. You’ll collaborate with our immersive tech specialist and lab manager to set up equipment, create engaging demonstrations, and assist users in exploring the exciting world of immersive technology. You’ll also be involved in workshops and the design and development of software for projects and research.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new and innovative applications for the IX Lab’s research and projects under the guidance of our immersive tech specialist.
  • Assist in setting up and configuring XR headsets, PCs, and other immersive tech hardware.
  • Learn about and demonstrate various XR applications to students, researchers, and visitors.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to users in the IX Lab.
  • Assist with workshops, training sessions and IX Lab events.

Job Requirements

  • A strong interest in immersive technology (XR) and its applications.
  • Experience with 3D development environments (e.g. Unity, Unreal or Godot) or XR development platforms (e.g. Lens Studio, 8th Wall or other WebXR platforms).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and eager-to-learn attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Good command of the English language, Dutch is a nice bonus.
  • Currently enrolled at a Dutch university and living in Rotterdam or the surrounding region.
  • Availability of 2 days per week on average for the full academic year 2025-2026.
