Last week, we partnered with the HonEURs Association for the SAS Interactive Data Challenge, an engaging event where motivated students tackled real-world data riddles using SAS‘s analytical tools. The day was filled with innovation, collaboration, and learning as participants dove into complex datasets, applied statistical and machine-learning techniques, and generated insights to solve practical problems.
What did our students do?
While working in teams, the participants analyzed diverse datasets, leveraged critical thinking skills, and put their creativity to the test! Each group presented its unique approaches and findings to a panel of judges, showcasing not only technical prowess but also strong communication and teamwork.
Why was this event valuable?
Students left with far more than just competition experience. They developed crucial data skills, gained confidence in presenting complex information, and had the chance to network with industry professionals.
The focus on interdisciplinary learning and leadership fits seamlessly with the goal of both the Erasmus Centre for Data Analytics and the HonEURs Association. It supported our shared mission of fostering innovation, data literacy, and academic excellence, while empowering students to become the next generation of responsible data-driven leaders.
All took place at the data lab of the Erasmus Data Collaboratory on the Erasmus University Rotterdam Campus. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated, and to SAS for their support in making this event a success! Jos van Dongen, director of the Erasmus Data Collaboratory at ECDA hosted the game, supported by Elif Saraçoğlu, data scientist at SAS.
Stay tuned for more initiatives and collaborations, as we continue to bring real-life learning opportunities and hands-on experiences to our student community.
