SUMMARY:ECDA Leadership Challenge Spring 2022
DESCRIPTION:The use of data and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will without any doubt change the waywe will do business in the future. As a matter of fact\, today it is already changing businesses\,governmental organizations\, and educational institutions. But what is needed to make ArtificialIntelligence a valuable part of the way we do business ourselves? Many experts believe thatsuccessful Artificial Intelligence applications hinge on the so-called b-smaCt technologies(Blockchain\, Social media\, Mobile use\, Analytics\, Cloud and Things-on-the-internet or better knownas IoT). The fuelling component of those technologies is Big Data. This insight will require a wholenew set of skills and ways of working. Understanding and working with new technologies for bigdata collection\, analysis and prediction will not create only huge societal and business opportunities\,but also ethical\, legal\, privacy and technical issues concerning every part of the organization. It willinfluence customer relationships\, redefines how organizations develop new products and services\,changes how operations are organized and managed\, and provides the basis for new businessmodels and service offerings. It will demand a data driven focus of everyone involved in theorganization. \n\n\n\nThis training programme combines the science of business\, data\, and societal perspectives.Participants – who usually join with a team of 3 to 6 persons – acquire a broad knowledge and diverseskills related to data analytics\, which may lead to new insights that drive new value creationopportunities. Such learning by doing manifests itself along two dimensions: across multiple levels(individual\, group\, and corporate) and across multiple functions. \n\n\n\nSpecific dates to be announced!

SUMMARY:ECDA Insights Social Artificial Intelligence #3
DESCRIPTION:Non-linear dimensionality reduction methods for large\, high dimensional datasets. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Prof. Boudewijn Lelieveldt (TU Delft) \n\n\n\nAbout the seminar \n\n\n\n\n\nThis presentation discusses novel visual analytics and non-linear dimensionality reduction techniques for large\, high-dimensional datasets. Focusing on the non-linear embedding technique tSNE\, we developed Dual tSNE and linked-view tSNE to enable fast and interactive identification of clusters and functionally interesting feature sets. Moreover\, we developed spatially mapped tSNE that integrates spatial image information in the tSNE map analysis. Finally\, we developed Hierarchical Stochastic Neighbor Embedding\, which scales to millions of data points while preserving the manifold structure of the full dataset. Applications of these techniques will be highlighted in three application domains: 1) analysis of hyperspectral imaging data 2) linked analysis of spatio-temporal gene expression data\, and 3) HDPS: a generic plugin system for fast and interactive analysis of high-dimensional data.

SUMMARY:Moonshot Thinking - Dick Willems\, Data Scientist | Dutch Police
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\n\nJoin us for a thought-provoking afternoon with Dick Willems\, Data Scientist at the Dutch Police! \n\n\n\nIn-person (followed by drinks & snacks) & online (live-streamed) \n\n\n\nTOPIC \n\n\n\nTackling crime with data science \n\n\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER \n\n\n\nDick Willems has worked as a Data Scientist at the Dutch Police since 2012. He studied Mathematical Psychology and started his career working as a data scientist in the commercial (marketing) industry to gain experience. Within the Dutch Police\, he mainly focuses on predictive policing – he is the creator of the Dutch predictive policing algorithm “CAS” – and the use of unstructured data such as text\, image\, and video data. \n\n\n\nABOUT MOONSHOT THINKING EVENTS \n\n\n\nMoonshot Thinking’ is a series of monthly events organized by BIM Group at the Rotterdam School of Management in order to bring industry and research a step closer. Our speakers are thought-leaders in their respective industry sectors and each one has a unique story to tell – whether that is a groundbreaking technology they are working on\, an idea they believe in\, or an innovation that will reshape the world as we know it. From inspiration and knowledge sharing to prospective research project developments\, we aim to inspire business leaders and researchers alike. \n\n\n\nEvents are hosted at RSM\, facilitating informal exchange of ideas and thoughts. Each event is an hour long\, with a 45-min speech by a business leader and a 15-min interactive Q&A from the audience. The event is followed by networking drinks\, where conversations can continue and collaborations can be born. \n\n\n\nIn collaboration with Erasmus Data Collaboratory. Learn more: https://ecda.eur.nl/data-collaboratory/
