SUMMARY:Responsible AI in Healthcare - Conference
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 11 and Friday 12 September 2025\, the conference ‘Responsible AI in Health Care’ takes place in Rotterdam\, the Netherlands. Please join and bring together the most important voices to realize responsible AI for health care! \n\n\n\nArtificial Intelligence (AI) continues to impact society in various and profound ways. It is inevitable that health care will face significant changes through the introduction of AI systems that are intended to support the health care system with diagnosis\, treatment decision-making\, hospital management\, medical research and development\, nursing care\, and the health infrastructure (homecare\, insurance etc.) more broadly. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Hosted by\n \n Convergence Center\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Date\n Wednesday 11 – Thursday 12 September 2025\n \n \n\n \n \n Type\n Conference\n \n \n\n \n \n Location\n Hilton Rotterdam\, Weena 10\, 3012 CM Rotterdam\n \n \n\n \n \n Speakers\n \n Prof. Brent Mittelstadt – University of Oxford\n Jan-Willem Scheijgrond – Philips / COCIR\n Prof. Tamar Sharon – Radboud University Nijmegen\n Prof. Dr. Peter van der Spek – Erasmus MC\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Purpose \n\n\n\nThe conference ‘Responsible AI in Health Care’ will clearly map how the introduction of AI in medicine unfolds\, which aspects of the health care systems will be impacted most\, and how this impact will unfold. First and foremost\, it intends to discuss in depth\, the question  how to shape this transition in a responsible way. \n\n\n\nAs the WHO calls for “safe and ethical medical AI” \, academics and practitioners are pressed to address the question\, which of the ongoing and future developments in medical AI are desirable or could be desirable under the right conditions. Prominent voices have suggested that the introduction of medical AI can “make medicine human again” (Topol 2019). Warnings\, however\, that the introduction of medical AI systems undermines the integrity of the patient-doctor relationship\, that it threatens responsibility attribution in that system\, that it reproduces existing social biases and inequalities (eg in diagnostic processes)\, that it disorients medical research and makes health care more inefficient\, have equally been issued. \n\n\n\nWhat would it mean to make AI practices and products responsible? What values would need to be implemented in the design of those technologies and how can this be done? What ways can we discover to ensure that health care stays responsible after the introduction of AI? These and other questions will be discussed in depth during this international conference. \n\n\n\nWho is the conference for ? \n\n\n\nThe conference brings together medical specialists\, academics\, R&D teams\, designers\, start-ups and scale-ups to discuss state-of-the-art knowledge on responsible innovation\, ethics and regulation. You can connect to inspiring opinion leaders\, scientific experts and industry leaders on the development of AI for health care\, you can meet peers and connect to the Research and Innovation ecosystem. This collaboration across disciplines and practices is the most promising avenue to optimal usage of AI in health care practice. All considerations\, opinions\, research approaches or project plans around responsible use of AI in healthcare are welcome in our debates\, panels\, keynotes\, multidisciplinary roundtable discussions and start-up pitches. \n\n\n\nThis first event brings together international representatives of academia\, business and industry focusing on developing AI responsibly\, either from medical\, ethical\, social science\, design\, legal and data science perspectives. \n\n\n\nMain Topics \n\n\n\n\n Collection and sharing of healthcare data for AI (data projects)\n The (value-sensitive) development of AI systems and their fit with work floor demands\n Interactions between AI\, healthcare professionals\, and/or patients\n Implementation and operationalization of AI systems\nEvaluation and accountability of (socio-technical systems including) AI in healthcare\nGovernance and regulation for AI in healthcare

SUMMARY:Een avond over AI en verkiezingen - Wat kun je vertrouwen?
DESCRIPTION:Sociaal AI Lab Rotterdam\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGebruik jij wel eens een chatbot om informatie te zoeken? Bijvoorbeeld over verkiezingen of politieke partijen? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Datum\n Maandag\, 9 maart 2026\n \n \n\n \n \n Tijd\n 18:45-20:00\n \n \n\n \n \n Locatie\n \nSociaal AI Lab Rotterdam\nDe Hillevliet\, Hillevliet 90\, 3074 KD Rotterdam (ruimte 0.25)\n\n \n \n\n\n \n Aanmelden\n \nHier aanmelden\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWat kun je verwachten? SUMMARY:Future Society Lab Meet-up
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to a New Reality \n\n\n\nThe reality in which we thought that systems protect us\, that security is a given\, and that crises are exceptions\, increasingly seems like a thing of the past. \n\n\n\nWhat will take its place is still diffuse. But one thing is clear: ‘resilience’ is no longer an abstract concept. It is something we must better understand and grasp\, but above all\, something we must put into practice. \n\n\n\n\nDuring the Future Society Lab meetup on March 19\, we will explore what societal resilience and robustness mean in an era where technology is accelerating\, uncertainty is becoming structural\, and our choices are increasingly made under pressure. \n\n\n\n\nWe’re keeping the exact details of what we’re going to do to ourselves for a moment. What we can say: this will be an afternoon that will change the way you look at technology\, systems\, and your own role under pressure. \n\n\n\nP.S. The program was developed in collaboration with Maurice de Beer\, who\, on behalf of the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Safety Region\, works daily at the intersection of technology and disaster\, risk\, and crisis management. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Date and Time\n Thursday 19 March 2026\, 14:00 – 17:00 + drinks afterwards\n \n \n\n \n \n Location\n Erasmus Center for Data Analytics | Polak Building (1st floor) | Burg. SUMMARY:AI@EUR Kick-Off
DESCRIPTION:AI@EUR is proud to mark its public kick-off as Erasmus University Rotterdam’s programme for developing a responsible and impactful approach to AI.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOver the past months\, while bringing our organisation together behind the scenes\, we have been laying the foundations for how we can equip\, engage\, and evolve with AI: launching pilot projects in education and research\, experimenting with AI tools in support services\, and strategically developing a vision for AI within our university. These initiatives are not isolated experiments\, but stepping stones towards a coherent\, university-wide approach to the responsible use of AI.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Date and Time\n Thursday 16 April 2026\, 15:30 – 17:30\n \n \n\n \n \n Location\n Forumzaal (M3-15)\, Van der Goot Building\, Campus Woudestein\, Erasmus University Rotterdam\n \n \n\n \n \n Event language\n \nEnglish\n\n \n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAI@EUR will support Erasmus University Rotterdam by connecting\, coordinating\, and strengthening AI efforts in research\, education\, operations\, and engagement. At the same time\, we will help ensure that we recognise and respond appropriately to the critical concerns AI raises\, from sustainability\, ethics\, knowledge production\, skills development\, inclusion\, and bias. This event marks the moment where these efforts come together and we look ahead\, together\, to what AI can mean for Erasmus University Rotterdam and our impact on society. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nExplore how to use AI in your work and studies—join the official kick-off by Rector Magnificus Prof. dr. ir. DESCRIPTION:Kunstmatige intelligentie (AI) beïnvloedt hoe we samenleven\, leren én werken. SUMMARY:The Influence of Digitalisation on Work\, Prosperity and Entrepreneurship
DESCRIPTION:Annual SSH-Breed Sectorplan Conference\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuilding on the success of the 1st Annual SSH-Breed Sectorplan Conference ‘The Influence of Digitalisation on Work\, Prosperity and Entrepreneurship’\, we will be hosting the 2nd Annual SSH-Breed Sectorplan Conference in Rotterdam on 24 April 2026 to continue the discussion of the promises\, challenges\, and societal impact of digitalisation. This year’s programme will be dedicated to three key themes in the field of digitalisation: Education\, Work and Automation.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Date and Time\n Friday 24 April 2026\, 9:00 – 17:00\n \n \n\n \n \n Location\n Forumzaal (M3-15)\, Van der Goot Building\, Campus Woudestein\, Erasmus University Rotterdam\n \n \n\n \n \n Event type\n \nConference\, no admission fee\, in English\, pre-registration mandatory\n\n \n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe conference is not limited to members of SSH-Breed\, but open to all who are interested. There is no admission fee\, but preregistration is mandatory. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nBrochure-SSH-Breed-conference-page2\n\n\n \n\n\n\nEducation \n\n\n\nDigitalisation is changing how people learn in schools\, universities and beyond. New tools\, such as adaptive learning platforms\, help to widen access to education and improve the learning experience. At the same time\, questions arise about whether digitalisation generates a new divide of education\, how data are collected and used\, and how AI-enabled tools might reinforce existing biases.  \n\n\n\nDigital technologies are also reshaping the interaction in the classroom and the assessment of academic performance in ways that we do not yet fully understand. It is therefore important to discuss how digital literacy can be implemented and strengthened in our society. This panel looks at how education systems can make good use of digital technologies while still protecting equity\, inclusion and educational quality. \n\n\n\nWork \n\n\n\nDigitalisation is reshaping how work is organised in our society. New technologies empower individuals with more flexibility in their working lives\, enabling them to work from various locations and taking part in platform-based work. However\, new technologies and recent development also bring risks. For instance\, algorithmic management systems can increase efficiency\, but they also raise concerns about surveillance\, fairness\, and privacy at work. This panel delves into how employers\, workers\, and policy makers can respond to these changes and support sustainable and fair working conditions. \n\n\n\nAutomation \n\n\n\nAutomation can take over dangerous\, repetitive\, or complex tasks and free people to focus on other kinds of work. It can also improve accuracy\, reduce accidents\, and increase productivity in many sectors\, from manufacturing and logistics to healthcare and public services. Meanwhile\, automation raises challenging questions\, ranging from human autonomy to accountability. Automation makes some jobs disappear\, while the arising benefits of automation are not always fairly allocated. This panel explores how automation can be used in ways that benefit society\, while also addressing its disruptive effects and the need for clear rules and public oversight. \n\n\n\nResponsible Digitalisation with sleeves rolled up \n\n\n\nIn April\, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and Erasmus University Rotterdam are joining forces around the theme of responsible digitalisation: digital technology that contributes to societal value\, inclusivity\, and broad prosperity. This marks a first step toward a single regional platform in which government\, education\, science\, the business community\, and civil society organizations work together to raise awareness of the impact of digitalization\, strengthen mutual connections\, and encourage action around the responsible use of digital technology.  \n\n\n\nAhead of the SSH-Breed Sectorplan Conference\, the Smart & Social Fest will take place on Thursday 23 April\, organised by Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPhotography during the event \n\n\n\nPhotographs will be made during the Annual SSH-Breed Sectorplan Conference.
