SUMMARY:Future-proof with young people: Social Code for Responsible AI
DESCRIPTION:Sociaal AI Lab Rotterdam  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTogether with Digital Child Rights\, the Social AI Lab Rotterdam is organizing an interactive session on policy and the Societal Code for Responsible AI\, with a special focus on young people. Based on insights from a consultation with 100 young people\, we will discuss what responsible AI means to them and how existing policy can be strengthened. Do you work as a policymaker for or with young people? Join the discussion\, share your expertise\, and help build future-proof AI.    \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Date and Time\n Monday 18 May 2026\, 14:00\n \n \n\n \n \n Location\n Rotterdam – Hillevliet 90\, Room 0.25\n \n \n\n \n \n Event language\n \nEnglish\n\n \n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Design together with algae and discover the impact of AI on nature
DESCRIPTION:Sociaal AI Lab Rotterdam  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAI may seem purely digital\, but it also uses energy\, raw materials\, and computers. In this workshop\, you will explore what that means for nature.  \n\n\n\nYou will work with algae\, fungi\, soil\, and materials such as iron and copper. Together\, you will develop an idea for an AI application. Then you will look at which choices matter\, such as data use\, hardware and energy consumption.  \n\n\n\nBased on these choices\, we create a recipe for growing algae. The algae then show what the effect is: do they grow well\, or do they start to decline? In this way\, the impact of AI becomes visible through living material.  \n\n\n\nSo in 3 hours\, you will not only create a design\, but also experience how technical choices can affect the natural world. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Date and Time\n Thursday 21 May 2026\, 14:00-17:00\n \n \n\n \n \n Location\n Museumpark 25\, Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam\n \n \n\n \n \n Event language\n English \n\n\n\n Ticket type\n Participation is free\, register below\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWho is it for?\n\n\n\nAnyone who is curious about AI\, design\, nature and the future of technology. No prior knowledge is needed.    \n\n\n\nOrganisation\n\n\n\nThe workshop is led by Tiwánee van der Horst. She works at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. Her research focuses on the impact of AI on the environment. She also explores how to make that impact visible and tangible for people through co-design. \n\n\n\nPractical Information\n\n\n\nThis event consists of three workshops that take place on three different dates. \n\n\n\n30 April 2026\, from 14:00 to 17:007 May 2026\, from 18:30 to 21:3021 May 2026\, from 14:00 to 17:00 \n\n\n\nThe first group will create the first design ideas. The second and third groups will build on these ideas. They will reflect on the results of the previous workshop and adapt the designs based on what the algae show.    \n\n\n\nAll results will become part of an installation. There is room for a maximum of 10 participants per workshop.  So sign up here:     \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:AI Hype\, Hope & Humanity: Co-creating Responsible AI across Research Policy\, and Practice
DESCRIPTION:𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAre you working on responsible AI and its real‑world implications? Do public values play a role in your research or practice? Are you developing research\, interdisciplinary insights\, or hands‑on applications? \n\n\n\nIf the answer is yes\, submit your application and join us at the AI Hype\, Hope & Humanity: Co-creating Responsible AI across Research Policy\, and Practice. During this three-day festival\, we will examine how AI is shaping societal resilience across domains such as work\, health\, education\, media\, food\, safety\, and defense. We will explore pathways for digital transition and long-term change through workshops\, debates\, live demonstrations\, and an expo-style showcase\, including a startup competition focused on responsible AI solutions. Our discussions will focus on the skills\, education\, and structural conditions needed to enable responsible and human‑centered AI in the years ahead. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Date and Time\n 30 September – 2 October 2026\n \n \n\n \n \n Location\n de Doelen\, Rotterdam\n \n \n\n \n \n Submission Deadline\n 24 May 2026\n \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe welcome submissions from across disciplines and sectors\, especially those that connect research\, practice\, and societal impact.Register your proposal via the link in the comments section. The event is organised by the network of ELSA Labs in the Netherlands: The ELSA Labs Network Project\, ELSA Lab AI MAPS\, ELSA Lab Media & Democracy\, ELSA Lab Defence\, ELSA Lab Northern Netherlands\, and the ELSA Lab AI4SFS.We’re proud to collaborate on this project with other Erasmus University Rotterdam initiatives: SEISMEC\, COALESCE\, AI@EUR\, Community for Learning & Innovation – Erasmus University Rotterdam\, Erasmus AiPact\, and AICON colLAB. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister
